What is a Vermiculite Coated Welding Blanket?

Basically, we heard about fire blanket & welding blanket but Vermiculite coated Welding Blanket word is still new for industry because of still many industries are using Fiberglass and other coated blanket for welding purposes, especially in the high-temperature job.

As per requirement, we have to use a heavy-duty welding blanket which also called as Vermiculite Coated Welding Blanket. Let's know about this blanket.

This blanket is made from "Ceramic Woven cloth" which is in various thicknesses like 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.4 mm, and more. Than this cloth is coated with "Vermiculite Powder", which is a complex hydrated aluminum and magnesium silicate. Vermiculite is prepared by heating to >300°C and is used in many commercial applications, such as heat-insulating materials.

The base of Ceramic Woven cloth and it is made through reinforcement of fiberglass yarn and SS wire. Ceramic fiber cloth features excellent properties of lightweight, low thermal conductivity, and chemical stability resisting attacks from most corrosive agents.

Now we understand why this is Heavy Duty Welding Blanket. As per the above information for Vermiculite powder, temperature resistance up to 300 c and we ceramic woven cloth -3mm thickness working temperature is 1000 c, so we can say it can work up to 1260 c which standard requirement of Industries for Welding Blanket.

Vermiculite Coated Welding Blanket has high vermiculite content of 10 to 12% and provides vital support in the process of collecting molten metal slag. These can be used as an alternative to asbestos based textiles and offers low thermal conductivity as well as superior dielectric strength.

This Welding Blanket is widely used in welding, foundry works, aluminum and steel mills, boiler insulation, and seal, shipyards, refineries, power plants, and chemical plants.
